Apple confirms that it will not make any exception to Epic Games because of the game Fortnite

If you think Apple and Epic Games are likely to reach some kind of settlement agreement on Fortnite soon, think again.  In a statement issued to The Verge, it appears that Apple has no plan to make an exemption to companies such as Epic Games that are behind the Fortnite game that is bringing a lot of revenue to the Apple Store thanks to in-game purchases.

According to the statement from Apple, it says: “The App Store is designed to be a safe and reliable place for users and a great business opportunity for all developers.  Epic Games was one of the most successful developers on the App Store, as it has grown into a company with billions of dollars in possession reaching millions of iOS users around the world ”.

Apple said that they very much want to keep the company as part of the Apple Developer Program and its apps in the store.  The problem that Epic Games became embroiled in is one that can be easily remedied if it sends an update to its game that makes it comply with the laws of the Apple Store again like all developers.  We will not exclude Epic Games because we do not believe it is right to place their business interests above the laws and guidelines that protect our customers.

Apple has since removed Fortnite from the App Store, prompting Epic Games to file a lawsuit against it.  Epic Games also says that Apple retaliates against it by denying it access to developer tools, which could have a negative impact on other Epic Games as well as games that use the Unreal Engine Epic.
