Apple App Store may be completely banned in China

Unlike Google, Apple has a very good relationship with China, and it is not surprising that Apple considers China one of its biggest markets.  However, given the ongoing trade war between the USA and China, it appears that these relationships could be tested as it is now reported that there is a possibility that the App Store will end up with a ban.

This is according to a recent report from The Information that states that in China, the majority of app stores must be owned by a Chinese company, but Apple has managed to overcome that for years.  However, due to the emergence of reports that the US government is working to block Chinese apps such as TikTok and WeChat, the new report indicated that China may retaliate by enforcing these laws.

This report goes on to indicate that Apple had in the past considered setting up its subsidiary in China to help it deal with these problems, but those plans have yet to move forward, although it now appears that it needs to take a look at it seriously.

Apple now doesn't have much choice, which means it will have to decide whether to give chinese regulators more control over the type of apps being deployed in the chinese store, or risk losing the market altogether.  It is unclear how this will happen, but a recent report hinted that removing the WeChat application from the App Store will cause Apple to lose billions of Chinese customers who will choose to buy smartphones other than the iPhone and also cancel any subscriptions they have in Apple services.
