Huawei Mate 40 will get a Kirin processor, but it could be the last flagship phone to get a Kirin processor

 

Huawei CEO Richard Yu spoke at the China Information Technology Summit 2020 about many things, including the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 Series phones, the next leading processors for the company, and the problems the company faces at the supply chain level due to the trade war.

The HiSilicon Kirin 1000 processor is expected to be announced at IFA 2020 scheduled for early September, before its debut in the Huawei Mate 40 Series lineup. This processor will be manufactured using 5nm technology by TSMC and will be based on the advanced Cortex-A78 cores. However, the Huawei Mate 40 Series could be the last to use the HiSilicon Kirin processor.

The USA will ban TSMC from manufacturing processors for Huawei starting in mid-September. Before then, Huawei will be able to secure enough processors for 15 million Huawei Mate 40 Series phones which the company feels will be sufficient. But once this stock runs out, the company will need to find a new source of processors.

The CEO said that in the first half of 2020, Huawei successfully shipped 105 million smartphones, which brought it CNY 255.8 billion in revenue. He confirmed that Huawei surpassed Samsung in terms of shipped units in the second quarter of this year.

For the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 Series phones, it is expected to include four models, including Huawei Mate 40, Huawei Mate 40 Pro, Huawei Mate 40 Pro and Huawei Mate 40 Porsche Design Edition. All of these models will have curved screens, albeit the degree of curvature is different. The cameras will also get big upgrades.
