With the nearing announcement of the iPhone 12, new research by technology consulting and research firm Omdia reveals that the iPhone 11 is the most shipped smartphone in the first half of 2020.
While other iPhone models also appeared in the top ten in the global ranking. Research indicates that iPhone 11 is the most popular model in 2020.
The iPhone 11 follows the success of the iPhone XR last year, which ranked first in global smartphone shipments in 2019. However, Omdia research indicates that Apple managed to ship 37.7 million iPhone 11 units this year, which is more than 10.8 million units than IPhone XR achieved it last year.
Even with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, iPhone sales have remained strong this year, mostly because the iPhone 11 brings significant new features and improvements while costing $ 50 less than its predecessor.
Other iPhone models also ranked in the top ten, including the iPhone SE 2020 in the fifth place, the iPhone XR in the sixth place, the iPhone 11 Pro Max in the seventh place, and the iPhone 11 Pro in the tenth place. This means that Apple has five of the best-selling smartphones since 2020. Other smartphones in the ranking include Samsung Galaxy A51 and Xiaomi's various of Redmi models.
The new iPhone SE for 2020 certainly helped Apple maintain strong results in 2020 with 8.7 million units shipped in the first half of the year. IPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max shipments have decreased compared to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max last year, but even so, their ratings improved and both models achieved positive results - with 6.7 million units and 7.7 million units shipped, respectively.
