PS2 games are coming to the PS4

Backward compatibility, in some ways.

Although until now it has always said it has no intention of making the PlayStation 4 backward compatible with PS3 games, Sony has just confirmed that it is working on a PlayStation 2 emulator for the console next-gen.

The information was obtained by Wired site that has received this statement by e-mail from Sony:

"We are working on using an emulation of the PlayStation 2 technology on the current generation of consoles. For now, we have nothing to add. "

So while it refuses to follow Microsoft's footsteps which made a hundred titles for Xbox 360 compatible with the Xbox One, making them compatible with PS3 titles for the PS4, Sony wants to revive the (very) old games PlayStation 2.

This is not really what people asked but at least it will please a few retro-gamers. Moreover, the site The Next Web points out that for example, a Star Wars bundle for the PS4 already contains PS2 games that are playable on the next-gen console.

When Microsoft announced the backward compatibility of the Xbox One, a Sony executive explained that although the approach is legitimate "if they seek to attract players to their new Xbox 360 platform," Sony has to time not intend to make playable PS3 titles on the PS4, and the builder prefers to mobilize its resources on other technologies. But note also the United States, Sony already offers PlayStation Now, which allows you to play titles for the PlayStation 3 streaming.
