Huawei is moving away from non-GMS Android to its Harmony OS 2.0 operating system.
And Huawei officially launched the first developer beta of Harmony OS 2.0 for mobile devices, and next year it will release smartphones based on its operating system.
Yang Haisong, Vice President of Consumer Business Software Division at Huawei, said: To date, the number of developers participating in the Harmony OS development project has exceeded more than 100,000 developers, and the number of device partners has increased from 5 to 10.
Industry reports claim that given the current progress, next year all Huawei devices will receive the Harmony OS, and this means that consumers do not need to purchase new devices to test the system.
The goal is to cover more than 100 million devices from more than 40 major brands by next year, said (Wang Chenglu), head of consumer business software division at Huawei.
Technically, Harmony OS is just a change to the bottom layer from the previous EMUI.
And according to Huawei's official website, Harmony OS beta users can revert to the stable version of EMUI 11 through HMA.

Huawei P40.
Huawei P40 Pro.
Huawei Mate 30.
Huawei Mate 30 5G.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G.
Huawei MatePad Pro.
Huawei MatePad Pro 5G.
Huawei MatePad Pro Wi-Fi.
Harmony OS is very similar to what the EMUI 11 Android-based user interface looks like, and the developer documents indicate that the applications are written in Java and that the layouts are defined in XML files, similar to Android.
It is clear that Huawei hopes to make its new operating system familiar to Android application developers as much as possible, in order to reduce obstacles in the transition to the new operating system and the accompanying ecosystem.
Early users also mentioned that Android development ideas can be applied to Harmony OS development, which greatly speeds up system development.
Huawei says: Harmony OS 2.0 comes with more than 15,000 APIs to support development across smartphones, wearables, cars, large screens, and many other use cases.
The company officially unveiled its operating system for the first time in a year and a half, showing the Honor Vision smart TV as the first device to operate with its operating system.
Throughout 2019, the company confirmed its commitment to the Android system, with plans to expand its system to include devices other than smartphones and tablets.
