Huawei beats Samsung to become the world's largest smartphone seller in the second quarter

Despite the difficulties and obstacles faced in the markets, Huawei managed to outperform everyone in the smartphone market during the second quarter of this year. According to Canalys, which specializes in market research, Huawei shipped 55.8 million smartphones, while Samsung shipped 53.7 million smartphones.

Huawei managed to extend its hegemony over the chinese smartphone market, which has already recovered some of its strength, making it account for 70 percent of the country's smartphone market. Meanwhile, the major markets of Samsung are still suffering from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, causing their sales to drop by 30 percent year on year.

On this topic, Canalys Senior Analyst, Mr. Ben Stanton, stated: “If it wasn’t for COVID-19, it wouldn’t have happened.” Samsung holds less than 1 percent of market share in China, while the COVID-19 pandemic continues to negatively affect the company's sales in the company's main markets, including Brazil, India, the USA and Europe.

This is a temporary advantage for Huawei, it will be difficult for it to lead the smart phone market over the long term as long as it is denied entry to the American market and the use of applications and services of Google.

Canalys analysts believe that other Chinese companies will take advantage of this situation in their favor to expand their presence in the global markets. This will also help these companies recover some of their market share in China.
