95% of Chinese Users Surveyed Would Rather Give Up Their iPhones Than Lose WeChat

As some of you have likely heard, the US government is considering banning apps like WeChat as part of its ongoing trade war with China. It was rumored that this ban could cut iPhone sales by 30 percent, but a new poll indicates that the iPhone's condition in this case may be much worse than expected.

In a survey conducted on the Chinese social network Weibo and discovered by Bloomberg news agency, it appears that 95 percent of those surveyed say they are more willing to give up their iPhone than to give up the WeChat app. As we mentioned earlier, WeChat is more than just a messaging app. The application is multifaceted in China and in various places in the world.

Users can use the app to make payments wirelessly in stores, send money to each other, play games, pay their bills, buy public transportation tickets, etc. Since China prohibits other chat apps like Facebook Messenger from working, there are those who live outside of China who rely on the app to keep in touch with friends, family members, or business partners in China.

However, it is unclear how this ban will work. Will WeChat be banned from use only in the USA? Or will Apple be forced to remove the app from its app store and affect users around the world? We'll have to wait and find out the answer, but this latest suggestion would be a very big problem for Apple.
