5 WhatsApp features and tricks that not many people know

The WhatsApp application is considered one of the most used applications in our daily life, despite the presence of a large number of competing applications, such as: Messenger, Telegram, the iMessage application built into the iPhone phones, and others, but WhatsApp is the most used instant messaging application in the world, and it includes the largest number of users, as the number of its users reached more than two billion users around the world this year.

This is due to its versatility and ease of use to send text messages, files and photos, and make voice and video calls regardless of the phone you use.  Therefore, knowing the simple features and tricks in the application will make it easier for you to perform many tasks.

Here are 5 WhatsApp features and tricks that many people do not know:

1- Set custom ringtone for specific contacts:

Usually the notification tone for a new message arrives in the WhatsApp application unified for all the contacts on the phone, but the application allows you to assign a specific tone to any contact you want, which helps you to determine who is sending you without looking at the phone screen, so you will be able to respond to the conversations fast.

To set a specific tone for a specific contact, you can follow the following steps:

  •  Open the conversation with the contact or group that you want to put a custom tone for, then click on the name at the top of the screen.
  • Click on the option Custom Notifications, then check the box next to the option (use custom notifications) at the top of the screen to activate  Options below.
  • Click on the option (notification tone), then choose a new tone from the list that appears to you, or choose a specific tone from the audio files saved in your phone.
  • To customize the voice call tone for this contact as well, scroll down until you reach  Section (Call Notification).
  • Click on the option Call Ringtone, then choose a new tone from the list that appears to you.  Thus, all messages and voice calls that you receive from this person will have a new tone, instead of the one that you have selected by default for all contacts.

2- Edit photos inside the application before sending them:

Not many people know that WhatsApp includes a built-in photo editor that allows you to edit and annotate photos before sending them.

4- Distinguish important messages for quick reference:

If you need to quickly find a specific message within any conversation, such as: An important message within a workgroup, you can mark this message with a star instead of pinning the entire conversation, and to do this you can follow the following steps:

  • Within any personal or group conversation, tap and hold on the message you want to highlight, a text or a voice message.
  • You will see an icon set at the top of the screen, tap the star icon.
  • And to access all your starred messages; Open the WhatsApp application on your phone.
  • Click on the three dots icon in the upper-right corner, then click on the option Starred messages. Where you will see a list of all the messages that you have highlighted, and as soon as you click on one of them, you will move to the conversation.

5- Use the QR code to quickly add new contacts:

When WhatsApp users want to add a new contact to communicate with them, it takes several steps to go through first, which are: writing the number and saving it in the phone contacts, then searching for the contact in WhatsApp to start the conversation, although that does not require much effort however, the app made it much easier by using the QR Codes feature.

When you meet a new person now, you will not need to manually save his number in your phone, but you can add his number to WhatsApp contacts by scanning his QR code through the application, and WhatsApp will offer you the option to save the contact. After saving it, the chat window will open automatically.
